• Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is very important for mother and a baby. Many organizations like: American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommend breastfeeding. Breast milk contains the perfect amount of proteins, vitamins and fat. And, it is in a form much easier for digesting. This is important for a baby, because breast milk contains everything what is needed for growth. Breast milk contains antibodies, which are used for fighting against germs and bacteria! It is known that children who were breastfeed for 6 months, had less trips to the doctors and fewer respiratory illnesses, ear infections and bouts of diarrhea.

Some studies found that children who were breastfed, have higher IQ and because they had more physical contact, they have a better chance to develop serious relationships in the future. On the other side, babies who weren’t breastfed, can have overweight problems and diabetes. Breastfeeding protects baby against sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

There are several benefits for the mothers. Breastfeeding burn more calories, so you will lose pregnancy weight faster. It also releases the hormone oxytocin, which is important for returning uterus size, like before childbirth and may reduce bleeding. There are some records that breastfeeding lowers down risk from breast cancer and osteoporosis, but there are no proved records for that. While breastfeeding your baby you must look for signs of hunger and react immediately. You must be patient, so breastfeeding must last as long as baby want it. Usually it last 10-20 minutes. The last thing you must know about breastfeeding is comfort! You and your baby must be in a comfortable position, so milk can flow, and so you can give enough milk to your baby.
